We've been wrestling with the possibility of a new album since we first got back together back in 2011, but the circumstances just never evolved to where the process felt authentic like it had back in the 90s, until 2020 threw all our lives into turmoil for one reason or another (silver linings I suppose) giving rise to the work that we proudly present to you today.

We hope you find a similar sense of poignancy in these songs that you felt with our prior work and appreciate where we are now in addition to where we've been.

Listen to “Reason in Decline” now!

Today we celebrate the 30th Anniversary of our very first single "Wrong" b/w "South Carolina" which was released in October of 1992 on Stay Free! Each of these singles was hand-colored by the band, our friend and creator of Stay Free!, Carrie McLaren, various WXYC and WXDU DJs, and friends in the Triangle music community.

In honor of this anniversary, we'd love to see pictures of your own "Wrong" / "South Carolina" 7" single covers from your collection. We're less than a month away from the release of our new album "Reason in Decline" and today we and Merge Records release “Aimee,” a dusty, fingerpicked ode that echoes plaintively in a light-streaked cave of plinks, flutters, and moaning guitar twang. For a little context, Bachmann explains: “Right in the middle of an album about war profiteering, suicide ideation, modern propaganda and the struggle against anti-intellectualism comes this brief exhalation in the form of a tender, albeit dystopian, love song.”

New Midwest and West Coast dates added for early 2023! Tickets on sale to the general public at 10 am local time on Friday, September 30th. More tour dates are on the horizon.

"Screaming Undercover" is the song Eric Bachmann wrote during the pandemic that provided the direction and point of view for most of the new album, Reason in Decline.  Undoubtedly, we’ve all experienced  an uncomfortable anxiety with the world at times over the last six years which has proven difficult to soothe. This song provides some cathartic release of that anxiety. To be played loudly.

Happy New Year, Loaf Fans!

Today we’re announcing five more performances (Woodstock NY, Asheville NC, Birmingham AL, Philadelphia PA and Baltimore MD) occurring in March and April along with the official announcement that the first new Archers of Loaf songs in over twenty years will be released by Merge Records in 2020. The guys were in the studio in Durham, NC over the holidays finishing up the recordings so stay tuned for further release date announcements.

In the meantime we’ve uploaded some photos from the recording sessions on our Instagram page and updated our ticket links so fan list subscribers will be able to purchase tickets to the newly announced shows at 10AM local time on Wed, January 8th with general public sales following on Fri, January 10th at 10AM local time.
